Our Instructors

Owner and head coach. Certified CrossFit/Tactical Athlete kettlebell instructor, personal trainer, Specialist in Sports Conditioning (ISSA), certified USA Boxing coach, certified USA Boxing Official (Judge/timer/referee). State licensed coach/second/corner man by Nevada and California State Athletic Commissions & Washington Department of Licensing for mma, boxing, kickboxing/Muay Thai. Coach Joe is a lifelong martial artist - training in boxing, judo, Muay Thai, kickboxing, karate, mma, Filipino martial arts, and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. A US Navy veteran, he has over 30 years of experience instructing high level tactics and techniques to military, law enforcement, security and civilian trainees. Coach Joe helped start Hybrid Gym, and coached striking and mma there for 9 years prior to starting KCS in 2014. He recently retired from a 27 year career in law enforcement, where he was a state certified Master Defensive/Control tactics instructor, firearms instructor (handgun, shotgun, rifle), impact weapons instructor (baton/ASP/PR-24), OC spray instructor, Taser instructor, less-lethal instructor (impact munitions/beanbag/pepperball), reality based scenario/critical incident training instructor (Simunition, etc), Arrestling instructor, and court certified use of force and firearms expert. Coach Joe has long experience training everyone from absolute beginners to amateur champions to professional fighters.

Marilyn Johnson

Starting karate in 2008 with her kids, Coach Marilyn found herself enjoying martial arts and started to broaden her training. She eventually trained in kickboxing, Muay Thai, boxing, submission wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, mma, Kali, and Escrima. Coach Marilyn has attended several seminars in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, and Filipino martial arts to expand her knowledge base for instructing martial arts. Her teaching experience includes women’s self defense, and youth martial arts. She was recently promoted to brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. As the mother of an autistic young man, she has experience and insight in training special needs individuals. Coach Marilyn is a strong advocate for making martial arts accessible and enjoyable for everyone. In addition to coaching kickboxing, grappling and Kali classes at Kitsap Combat Sports, Coach Marilyn is available for private one on one or small group classes.

Ty Crisostomo

Ty started training at KCS when we first opened. he is an active competitor in BJJ, grappling, and kickboxing/Muay Thai. He recently completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at WSU, with a minor in Strength and Conditioning. He is an ACE certified personal trainer, American Strongman certified trainer, USA Weightlifting Olympic Lifting level 1 coach, and Precision Nutrition Level 1 coach.

“One of the best attributes anybody can learn is how to adapt and overcome any obstacle. A wise man (Bruce Lee) once said: ‘If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. If you put water into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow, or it can crash. Be water, my friend’. The core of my coaching philosophy is to become the cup.”

Coach Ty is teaching our youth striking classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 5pm, as well as assisting with other classes. He is available for small group or individual personal training. Please enquire about rates.

Arthur Millis

Arthur has been training martial arts since childhood, and is currently an active competitor in amateur MMA, boxing., kickboxing, Muay Thai, and submission grappling. He is a recent Grappling Industries tournament gold medalist. Arthur is an ACE certified personal trainer and is available for personal one on one or small group training. Arthur is coaching MMA, grappling and kickboxing classes, as well as actively training for competition.

Jesse Adkins (on hiatus)

MMA, boxing, kickboxing, conditioning, and submission grappling coach. Experience as an amateur MMA fighter, boxer, and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu/grappling practitioner. Coach Jesse runs evening BJJ and grappling classes (T/Th/F 6pm). He is a licensed massage therapist specializing in deep tissue, sports and clinical massage for athletic recovery, back and hip pain, and auto accidents. He is available for appointments on site at KCS. Coach Jesse is a US Army veteran, and an active competitor in boxing and submission grappling. He recently (Feb 2023) won his weight class title belt at the Las Vegas invitational master boxing tournament, repeating his win from 2021.

Monty Anderson

Monty is a phenomenal athlete, having played professional football in Europe and Brazil. He is also an amateur fighter having several boxing and kickboxing matches and smokers as well as recently competing in mma, where he won his debut with a first round knockout! He was recently certified as a USA Boxing coach. Monty has extensive experience teaching and training kids and special needs students, and enjoys working with youth. Monty is assisting teaching our kid’s striking classes, and other classes as needed.

Bobby Manglona (on hiatus)

Long time wrestler at Fairview Jr High and Olympic High school, Bobby won the Wa. state high school championship at 122 pounds in 1992. Former wrestling coach at Olympic High school, Fairview Jr. High, and Kitsap Ironman kid’s club wrestling. “I believe wrestling is a great way to build kid’s confidence. My beliefs are having fun first, along with learning the fundamentals and basics of wrestling. I’m a learn first, win second type of coach. I will donate all of my energy to see your kid succeed”. Bobby is our youth wrestling coach, and runs Workhorse Wrestling, a youth club wrestling program. Coach Bobby is on hiatus, but will hopefully be returning soon.

Bobby Lawrence (on hiatus)

Lifelong athlete Bobby Lawrence started martial arts at age 7 studying Butokukan Karate and Judo. He competed in collegiate/freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling at the age of 9. In 2002 he began studying at the Martial Arts Training Academy under Sifu Mark Olsen. Training in MMA, Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai kickboxing, Shooto, Catch Wrestling, and Filipino martial arts. Bobby was a co-owner and coach at Full Circle Fight Club in Bremerton starting in 2007. There he coached, trained, and cornered several champions, both amateur and professional. Bobby has recently been coaching his daughter’s volleyball and softball teams. We are happy to welcome Bobby back to KCS, where he will be occasionally coaching classes in the evenings.
